Sally’s overall stake after betting £1 a day on the horses for 82 years

A WOMAN who has turned 100 credits her long life to a £1 daily bet on the horses.

Cecilia Reeve, known as Sally, has been betting since she was young and loves the excitement it brings.

Her friend and carer Susie Moore, 66, who goes to the bookies for her, said: “I think that’s what keeps her alive. It keeps her brain active.”

Sally, of Cheltenham, Glos, has put £1 on the horses every day for around 82 years, making her total stake nearly £30,000.

She has always employed an old-fashioned wager known as a patent bet. Sally’s consists of three 30p bets and one 5p eachway bet. The pair then spend afternoons drinking tea and watching the races on TV.

Susie said: “Sally will have a little run of winning and then she’ll have a run of losing. “She’s been known to pick up £80 on a race but sometimes she’ll just pick up 30p.

“It doesn’t put her off. She always says she’s in it for the excitement.”

Sally insists her bets are put on at Betfred. Susie joked: “Doesn’t matter what the weather is like, I’m trudging down to place a bet for her.” FAVOURITE Betfred shop Tell us what you think: yourvoice@mirror.co.uk 23
