Pressure’s on Corbyn ahead of showdown

-

A KEY ally of Jeremy Corbyn piled pressure on him over anti-Semitism before today’s showdown with Labour’s ruling body.

Emily Thornberry called on the party leader to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of anti-Semitism in full.

The Shadow Foreign Secretary spoke of a “nervousness” in Labour that some examples, if adopted, would make it impossible to criticise Israel.

But she said: “I’ve read a number of legal advices that say that we can.”

She called it “disgusting” that Jewish people felt they would be less safe under Labour and added: “We must deal with it.” The party’s national executive committee will thrash out its response to the crisis.

Corbyn ally Peter Willsman, who was caught up in a row after calling some Jews “Trump fanatics”, was last night elected to the committee.
