One match and Tigers sack boss
LEICESTER, England’s biggest rugby club, have sacked boss Matt O’Connor after just ONE match.
The axe fell 48 hours after the 10-time English champions were hammered 40-6 by Exeter in their first game of the season.
Leicester chairman Peter Tom said: “We believe the time is right to make this change in the best interests of the Tigers moving forward.”
Aussie O’Connor, 47, appointed for a second spell in April last year, won only 19 of his 38 games in charge as Tigers failed to reach the play-offs for the first time since 2004.
The East Midlands giants have not won a major trophy since 2013.
Club legend Geordan Murphy steps up from his role as assistant coach to take charge – with the help of Mark Bakewell, Boris Stankovich and Brett Deacon.
