GERRARD SACKED FOR RACIST JOKE
OLDHAM sacked defender Anthony Gerrard for posting a racist joke in a players’ WhatsApp group. Gerrard (left), cousin of former Liverpool skipper Steven, had his
FROM BACK PAGE contract terminated last month by the League Two club and has since signed for Carlisle. It is understood the sacking relates to a joke Gerrard posted about the Islamic holy period of Ramadan on the players’ WhatsApp group.
That post is now being investigated by the FA.
Gerrard played against his famous cousin for Cardiff in the 2012 League Cup final, missing the decisive spot kick in a penalty shoot-out defeat.
Liverpool skipper Gerrard (above, with Anthony) had also earlier missed from the spot.
