We told how 10 survivors of a plane crash in Rhodesia were mown down by guerillas fighting the white minority government. It later emerged that the plane had been shot down.

A stand-off with a hijacked Pan Am jet at Pakistan’s Karachi airport ended in carnage after four gunmen opened fire on the hostages.

21 YEARS AGO (1997)

Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa died of a heart attack, aged 87, at her Missionari­es of Charity HQ in Calcutta, India.
