‘PC gave no warning as she hit wrong man with a Taser’

- BY CLAIRE HAYHURST

A POLICE officer gave no warning immediately before tasering a race relations adviser she mistook for a wanted man, a misconduct panel was told.

Acting Sergeant Claire Boddie and a colleague had stopped Judah Adunbi, 65, as he walked his dog in the Easton area of Bristol on January 14 last year.

Mr Adunbi refused to give the officers his identity, as was his right, the panel at Avon and Somerset Police headquarters heard. PC Boddie drew a Taser and warned Mr Adunbi that she had done so, telling him to “calm down”. A short time later, she drew the X26 Taser again and deployed it without warning. PC Boddie said she acted in line with her training and said Mr Adunbi had been a “violent man” in a “fighting stance”. The panel is set to present its findings on Wednesday.
