Today’s picture shows eight Welsh Guards holding up the coffin of Princess Diana as the procession entered Westminste­r Abbey. Led by chief pallbearer, Captain Richard Williams, the soldiers were selected to carry the quarter-tonne, lead-lined coffin, based on their height and fitness. Captain Williams recalled, “It was hard but we realised the job we had to do.” An estimated two billion people watched Diana’s funeral worldwide.
