Ronnie’s still tweets ahead

THERE were the usual raised eyebrows at the news that Cristiano Ronaldo (right) is on £28million a year – after tax – at Juventus.

That is three times more than the next-best paid player in Italy and beats the combined takehome pay of the entire playing staff at 10 Serie A clubs. Normally my eyebrows would join in.

But the revelation coincided with a report that after his move, Juve gained six million social media followers while one million people on Twitter unfollowed Real Madrid within 24 hours. I haven’t a clue how that translates into money, but, depressing­ly, it does. And probably makes the cost of hiring Brand CR7 for a few years an absolute steal.
