JOSE SONGS OF PRAISE CLASS

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

MANCHESTER UNITED fans showed their class with their fervent backing of Jose Mourinho, according to Bryan Robson.

United fans chanted Mourinho’s name throughout their 2-0 win at Burnley last Sunday in an unequivocal show of support for their under-fire boss.

And United legend Robson said the enduring support for Mourinho was crucial to the team recovering from the early setback of back-to-back defeats in the Premier League.

Robbo said: “I’ve always said about United fans that when you’re going through not such a good period, they stick

behind you and give you the best support they possibly can.

“By the same token, when you’re doing really well and winning loads of trophies, they don’t get carried away and think it’s going to happen automatically.

“Obviously, when you’re winning things it’s dead easy to support the team.

“But when it goes the other way, some fans will criticise, rather than stick with the team.

“It doesn’t surprise me that after the Tottenham game the fans got behind Jose.

“And then the support at Burnley was fantastic, the way they kept singing all the way through the game.

“But that’s what United fans tend to do.”
