‘Shun dairy’ bid to save badgers
CAMPAIGNERS want a boycott of dairy produce to force farmers to stop culling badgers.
The creatures have been blamed for spreading TB, which leads to thousands of cattle being slaughtered every year. In 2017, 19,724 badgers were killed.
Jade Emery, of Animal Aid, said there was “mounting evidence” the cull made little difference to TB rates.
She said: “The best way to support badgers is to stop financially supporting the dairy industry.”
The National Farmers’ Union said: “Action to prevent infection of cattle from the significant reservoirs of TB in badger populations is an essential component of the Government’s strategy to eradicate TB.”
