Shopper carries out chair raid on House of Fraser to get sofa
WHEN Fiona Boston was told the sofa she had paid for with cash may never be delivered after House of Fraser went under, she refused to take it lying down.
She enlisted the help of some “strong lads”, hired a van, marched into the store, dismantled the sofa and took it home.
Fiona, 52, said: “We walked right out the front door. No one batted an eyelid.”
But when staff at the store in Darlington, Co Durham, realised what she had done, they surrounded the van. She said: “They told me… it was theft. I said I’d paid for it and had a receipt.” As they drove home to Stockton-onTees, they were stopped by police, who let them go.
Fiona said: “It’s what you call British justice.”
After paying for the sofa on July 26, the delivery was delayed, so Fiona and husband Alan, 66, had to sit on deck chairs.
When House of Fraser went into administration in August, Fiona was told she’d lost her money, the sofa and £715 she had paid for other items.
House of Fraser was bought by Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct for £90million.
Fiona said: “They told me I would be put on a list of creditors. I knew the chances were I wouldn’t be getting it back.” So, on September 1, she sought divan retribution.
The Mirror last night contacted Sports Direct for comment.
