City to hit the target

- DAVE MITCHELL

WHICH one of the Ascot regulars is going to sail home today in the Cunard Handicap?

This is only the eighth renewal of the sister race to the big-field seven-furlong contests held here during the season.

However, a strong series of trends has already emerged — the pick of which are: Didn’t win last time. Previous Ascot form. Last run within previous 42 days.

No more than 9st.

That leaves us with plenty of the usual suspects, but it’s normally best to stick to those drawn in double figures.

From the six that remain it’s SPANISH CITY, trained by Roger Varian (above), who has the most scope.

He has kept his form since finishing sixth in the Victoria Cup here in May and is still competitive at the weights.

Have 2pts win at 12-1 in places.
