Police charge woman, 28 over town centre stabbing
A WOMAN has been charged with attempted murder over a man’s alleged stabbing in a town centre.
Ayaan Ali, 28, has also been charged with affray and possessing an offensive weapon over Saturday morning’s incident in Barnsley, South Yorks.
Shoppers fled at around 8am. However police said it “was not an act of terrorism”.
Ali, of Isleworth, Middlesex, will appear before Barnsley magistrates court today. Chief Superintendent Scott Green said: “There remains a lot of speculation and rumour on social media, much of which is creating a lot of fear and distress locally.
“While it would be inappropriate to provide specific information about ongoing legal proceedings what I can clarify is that at this stage there is absolutely no information whatsoever to suggest that this was a group attack.
“We are satisfied that this was an isolated incident by a single person.”
