HENDO: WE FEARED THE WORST FOR UNLUCKY LUKE
JORDAN HENDERSON admitted that England’s players “feared the worst” when Luke Shaw suffered his horror injury.
Shaw, 23, collided with Spain right-back Dani Carvajal while challenging for an aerial ball and landed heavily just after half-time.
The Manchester United star was treated by 10 members of the medical team for close to seven minutes before being carried off on a stretcher early in the second half.
His team-mates looked shaken by the impact of the collision.
And after Saturday’s match, Henderson said: “I wasn’t very close at the time, but I have seen his head sort of shake.
“I think he is OK, back in there now.
“At first I didn’t know how serious it was, but obviously when the paramedics come on with the stretcher and the neck brace you start to fear the worst. Touch wood, I think he’s OK. That’s the main thing.”
Shaw later tweeted: “Thanks for all the love and support. I am doing fine and in the best hands.” And he added: “I’m a fighter so I will be back soon.”
Shaw returns to Manchester United today after the FA confirmed he suffered concussion.
That could mean United defender faces a lay-off and misses his club’s trip to Watford next Saturday depending on the outcome of tests.
Forward Danny Welbeck insists he will not panic over his lack of game time at Arsenal harming his hopes of staying in Gareth Southgate’s plans.
The 27-year-old is on course to start tomorrow’s friendly with Switzerland, and said: “I’m going to give it my best. In training I’m going to work hard, make sure that I’m ready.
“When an opportunity is there, I’m going to take it. I’m just going to give it my all.”
