COURAGEOUS GARETH TO MAKE SEVEN CHANGES... DESPITE RISK OF BEING DONE FOUR

- BY JOHN CROSS Chief Football Writer

GARETH SOUTHGATE will ring the changes against Switzerland – despite running the risk of England suffering their WORST-EVER run of results. The Three Lions boss is ready to make at least seven changes for tomorrow’s friendly, even though losing would mean a fourth consecutive defeat for the first time in the national team’s history. England’s defeat to Spain made it three in a row, their worst run in 30 years, while the next two Nations League games after the Swiss friendly are away trips to Spain

Southgate insists he is not thinking beyond the Euros.

A multi-millionaire, the 48-year-old does not need the money, but may be concerned that if the next tournament does not go well his popularity may fade.

He said: “Well, first and foremost, 100 per cent focused on this job, nothing else. I’m under contract, I’ve two years, that leads to a European Championship where we have games at Wembley, which is going to be a brilliant experience.

“I know absolutely what comes with the job, so anything to suggests there’s a problem with what surrounds it, and the focus and attention of it, absolutely no problem at all. I love the challenge of it.

“I believe I’ve been through an experience as pressured as you’re ever going to face at any club or international team in getting through a World Cup. What’s beyond that is to be decided.”
