O’NEILL NEEDS A CURT RESPONSE
PORTSMOUTH striker Ronan Curtis has been drafted into the Ireland squad for tomorrow night’s friendly in Poland.
The 22-year-old has been added to a depleted party for the game with Jonathan Walters (right) having returned to Ipswich following Thursday’s 4-1 Nations League defeat in Wales.
With Shane Long already out injured, boss Martin O’Neill has seen his options severely reduced and he will pick his frontmen from Preston duo Graham Burke and Callum Robinson, Millwall’s Aiden O’Brien (above) and Curtis – who has scored five goals in six League One games for his club this season after his arrival from Derry City. And Robinson admitted to mixed feelings after making his debut in the thumping by Wales. He was capped by England from Under-16 to U20, but swapped allegiances through his Monaghan-born grandmother. Robinson said: “It was huge for me and I had butterflies in my belly. I was honoured to be picked, but I was gutted for the team.”
