Cop demands action to stop police ‘crisis’
A SENIOR police officer is urging the Government to prevent a policing “crisis”.
Chief Supt Gavin Thomas will tell the Police Superintendents’ Association “difficult and bold” decisions must be taken.
He adds today: “This great service is on the verge of crisis.”
Yesterday it emerged that the numbers being jailed on assault charges has hit a 10-year low.
David Spencer, of the Centre for Crime Prevention, said: “These figures seem to suggest violent assault is now tolerated.”
The Ministry of Justice said: “Sentencing remains a matter for judges.”
