STRICTLY star Kate Silverton hopes whirling around the dancefloor will get her back in shape at the paso doble after IVF “messed up” her body.
The 48-year-old newsreader, who is partnered with Aljaz Skorjanec, 28, says her fitness has slipped in the past eight years. Kate, who wed Mike Heron in 2010, said: “We got married at 40 and then we had all the IVF and all the rest of it and, God, everyone that has been through IVF will know how much it messes up your body.” Kate had four rounds of IVF before conceiving Clemency naturally at 41. She had son Wilbur three years later. She was back in the gym weight training before a recent “ladies stuff” op set her back. But just two days into Strictly training, and she already feels the benefit.
She said: “I have felt my core snap back in. Everyone talks about the two stone weight loss, but if I can get back in my wedding dress then I am happy.” Viewers on Saturday saw Kate’s delight to be partnered with Aljaz.
Kate said the “super-smiley, sunny Slovenian” was her dream partner. “Why? Because as well as being a brilliant choreographer and having a great track record, Aljaz is fun, cheeky and, crucially, tall. I stand 5ft 10in in bare feet.”
She had feared Strictly bosses would go for “mixed-height couples this year for a laugh”.
She said: “So when I heard Tess say ‘Aljaz’ it felt like Christmas.”
Remembering the steps might be her biggest stumbling block.
She said: “I have just done this group dance and there were so many steps by the end of it I was messing this whole line up.
“They were literally dragging me around.
“I was dying inside.”
