Today’s picture shows the aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Centre from across the Hudson River in Hoboken, New Jersey. Smoke, dust and debris block out the sunlight in the moments after the fall of the North Tower at 10.28am, the second of the Twin Towers to collapse. Some 2,996 died in the September 11 suicide attacks when al-Qaeda operatives hijacked four passenger airliners.
