ARSENAL caretaker-boss Stewart Houston admitted he suffered his ‘‘worst night in Europe’’ as the Gunners lost 3-2 at home to Borussia Monchengla­dbach in the UEFA Cup.

It meant Arsenal were on the brink of a European exit before new coach Arsene Wenger arrived.

And it was the man Wenger had put top of his hit list, Stefan Effenberg, who helped do the damage with the second goal. The Germans won 6-4 on aggregate.
