SCOTLAND BUY £5M HAMPDEN
SCOTLAND are staying at Hampden Park after striking a deal to buy the Glasgow stadium from Queen’s Park.
Hampden will remain home to major internationals and cup semi-finals and finals.
SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell (above) said: “It’s a fantastic day for Scottish football.
The governing body had been considering taking showpiece games to Murrayfield in Edinburgh, the home of Scottish rugby union.
But the SFA struck a £5million deal to buy Hampden from League Two Queen’s Park and inherit £19m of liabilities.
Maxwell added: “We would have learned a lot working with the SRU at Murrayfield but ownership is the game-changer. Utilising that 24/7 gives us a real opportunity to make changes.”
