I don’t believe for one minute E.coli killed mum & dad
Daughter hits back as Egypt claims Brits died from bug
They are aware this is having a negative effect on tourism
KELLY ORMEROD ON THE EGYPTIANS’ REPONSE
A WOMAN has accused Egyptian authorities of not wanting to “tell the truth” after they claimed her mum and dad were killed by E.coli.
Kelly Ormerod, 40, said postmortems will be carried out today on parents John and Susan Cooper, whose bodies were repatriated earlier this week.
The E.coli claim by Egyptian prosecutors yesterday came after reports a powerful insecticide had been used to fumigate the hotel room next to the couple’s.
Kelly said: “I don’t believe for one minute that E.coli caused their deaths. It seems odd the day a report appears about pesticides being used in the room next to my parents’, the Egyptian authorities then say it’s E.coli.
“But E.coli does not kill you within a matter of hours.
“They are either stuck for answers or don’t want to tell the truth. They are obviously aware this is having a very negative effect on tourism.
“I have no faith in the Egyptian authorities, especially knowing the way I was treated out there. I have not seen any official report on how they died and no authorities have spoken to me about it.”
INCONCLUSIVE
John, 69, and Susan, 63, from Burnley, Lancs, died at the Steigenberger Aqua Magic Hotel in Hurghada on August 21.
Travel agent Thomas Cook said last week it had identified a high level of E.coli bacteria at the hotel. And reports from Egypt yesterday said prosecutors believe John suffered acute intestinal dysentery caused by E.coli.
Susan is said to have had a complication linked to infection, also likely caused by the bug.
But Kelly said: “The bodies came back with papers and the results have been inconclusive.
“I am just living in hope we find something in the results of the postmortems here.”
Kelly is convinced something in the hotel room was responsible. A strong smell was reported the night before her parents died.
It has since been claimed the room next door had just been fumigated with the farming insecticide lambda-cyhalothrin.
Kelly said: “The room is still sealed off and there are police outside. So that suggests they may still be treating it as a crime scene. It has to be something inside the room.
“When you discover they fumigated the room on the Monday and my mum and dad woke up on Tuesday in the state they did, that is not a coincidence.”
