25,000 with no car cover

AN estimated 25,000 learner drivers are on the roads without valid car insurance, figures suggest.

Data from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau police helpline found one in two of these motorists stopped were also unsupervis­ed.

MIB, which pays out for accidents caused by the uninsured, said: “We urge learners to drive insured or police will seize their car.”

They can also get six licence points and a fine.
