WWII Enigma machines to sell for £350k
TWO rare Enigma machines used by the Nazis in the Second World War are going on sale for £350,000.
The Germans sent coded military messages with the devices, hiding their plans from the Allies.
After British mathematician Alan Turing cracked the code in 1941, the Nazis upgraded the original three-rotor Enigmas to machines with four rotors.
Now, a working threerotor device from 1941 is up for auction for £150,000.
A four-rotor M4, from 1943, is valued at £200,000.
Both will be sold in London on September 19.
John Bradley, of auctioneers Bonhams, said: “They are very rare. The two we have both appear to have been used in the war. The digital age has made them very collectable.”
