RETURN OF LOVED BUG

This is what I love about rallying. Meet Bertie Beetle, a 1958 VW competing in this year’s Wales Rally GB, the UK round of the World Rally Championship.

Bertie isn’t in with the rip-snorting top class WRC cars but is competing in the national rally, which shadows the premier class.

Owner Bob Beales, from Hereford, has owned the Beetle since the 1960s, rallied it, put it in storage, then dusted it back off for some historic rallying a few years ago. It started life 60 years ago with a Hereford taxi company which managed to roll it.
