13,000-yr-old brewery find

THE world’s oldest brewery – dating back 13,000 years – has been found inside a cave.

Archeologists discovered stone jars containing traces of malted cereal near Haifa, Israel.

Until now it was believed beer was first brewed about 8,000 years ago in Turkey and China.

But the study by Stanford University in the US confirmed it was drunk on Mount Carmel 4,000 years before domestic cereals were grown in the area.
