The thing about this reality concoction is that it really does show you a completely different side to someone.
“When it comes to the creme anglaise, I’m taking over,” announces Strictly’s AJ Pritchard. Who knew the baby-faced dancer had such skills with posh custard? Although he later admits he’s never eaten a pear and burns his honeycomb.
Fortunately for him he’s so pretty he gets away with it.
Elsewhere, presenter Jay Blades and singer Stella Parton try to navigate their way through a fish and chips dish. This is the new Pairs Challenge, which sees teams attempt to cook identical dishes while on either side of a wall.
“They have to be the same even though they’re rubbish,” decides AJ’s partner Lisa Maxwell, setting the standards high.
Later they cook for 100 people at The Royal Veterinary College, before creating two courses for MasterChef alumni Alexis Conran, Rev Richard Coles and Andi Peters.
It all matters because only one will nab a semi-final place.
