SURREY have claimed their first county title for 16 years after beating Worcestershire at New Road – their ninth win on the bounce.

Superstar South African paceman Morne Morkel (left) hit the winning runs, but his 50 wickets had the biggest impact on Surrey’s successful push to become champions.

Morkel said: “It’s a special feeling.” Skipper Rory Burns has been the stand-out batsman and should earn himself a ticket for England’s winter tours, while the young guns – Curran brothers Tom and Sam, Amar Virdi and Ollie Pope – have all shone.
