WAGNER A RETIRING TYPE – NOT LIKE ROY

- BY MIKE WHALLEY

DAVID WAGNER says there is no way he will still be working when he is Roy Hodgson’s age – as he will be walking the dog on a beach in Cornwall.

Hodgson is still going strong in management at 71, having just celebrated a year at Crystal Palace.

The former England boss led Palace to safety comfortably last season – even though they looked doomed after losing their first seven league matches.

And he is still as hungry as ever as he looks to end a run of three league defeats with a victory over Wagner’s Huddersfield in West Yorkshire today.

The Terriers went into the international break with two points from their opening four games, but Wagner made sure he took some time to clear his head by nipping down to Cornwall with his wife and their pet dog for a couple of days.

And that gave the German-American (above, with Hodgson), 46, a glimpse of how he might spend his sunset years – by relaxing rather than feeling the pressure on a Premier League touchline.

Wagner said: “Roy Hodgson is a living legend of English football. I cannot imagine how you can still be a manager at 71.

“For sure, at that age, I will not be a manager of any football club on this planet. This is what I can say for sure.

“Hopefully I will be very healthy and my family will be very healthy, enjoy life and the fresh air and maybe go to Cornwall for some dog walks if the weather is nice.”
