Humble gong for cave hero

A BRIT diver hailed for his role in rescuing 12 boys from a Thai cave in July declined a civil ceremony.

Cub leader John Volanthen, 47, got the Scouts highest honour, the Bronze Cross, from his local club in Long Ashton, Bristol, saying he was “humbled”.

His was the first voice the boys heard after nine days trapped undergroun­d.
