NUNO’S GOT A BRAND NEW CLUB

But golf hobby won’t affect Wolves’ drive

WOLVES manager Nuno Espirito Santo admits his new hobby is driving him to distraction.

The 44-year-old Portuguese prides himself on being a driver of men – not golf balls.

He has only just taken up the sport despite spending his life in the golfing hotspots of Portugal and Spain.

Wolverhampton would seem a strange place to discover a fascination with the fairways and Nuno said he is not sure he likes what he sees.

He prepares for the visit of Burnley revealing that while he strives for perfection on the pitch, he is struggling to take that philosophy on to the golf course.

Nuno said: “I’m not very good, but I’m trying my best. I find it a big challenge and I’m struggling!

“My short game and putting aren’t too bad but when I have to drive, I just don’t know where it’s going to go.”

He drove Wolves to the top of the Championship pile without too much trouble and says he feels comfortable in the top flight. But he has warned his team that tomorrow’s clash with struggling Burnley must not be taken lightly.

Sean Dyche’s side might still be looking for their first win, but Nuno says his men can not afford to be complacent.

“I think being in the Europa League made things very different for Burnley, but now they don’t have that to contend with that, it could make it harder for us,” he added.

“They are a very good team with a manager who has made fantastic things happen there.

“It’s been hard for them to maintain the same standards in both competitions. Now they’ve had the international break as well, so I’m sure that has helped them.”

For the first time this season, Wolves will start a match as favourites, but Nuno is having none of it. He said: “For us, nothing changes. We will not be underestimating them or anybody else. We can’t afford to.

“Our respect for them is exactly the same as we showed for the likes of Manchester City.

“We’re enjoying life in the Premier League. We are comfortable with it because we respect it and work hard.”
