Brave lad, 5, in testicular cancer fight

- BY LUCY THORNTON

A BOY of five has become one of the youngest Britons with testicular cancer.

Doctors removed Lucas Hellowell’s golf ball-sized tumour, which his parents had spotted as he dressed.

He is now having 22 weeks of chemotherapy, due to end in January.

Lucas’s mum Mel Speight, 25, of Halifax, West Yorks, said: “It’s hard seeing him go through something like this. It really affects him when he has his double dose.”

About 30 boys under four and 10 aged five to nine have been diagnosed with the cancer in the past five years in the UK.

Professor Dan Berney, from cancer charity Orchid, said: “Most have an extremely good prognosis. but the earlier they are diagnosed the better.”
