KANE: I DON’T HAVE A WORLD CUP HANGOVER
HARRY KANE has fiercely denied he is suffering from World Cup burnout. The Tottenham striker has gone 249 minutes without a goal after drawing another blank against Liverpool amid accusations he is fatigued. England boss Gareth Southgate put Kane on the bench for the friendly against Switzerland after claiming the centre-forward needed a rest.
But Kane (left) insists he will answer back by scoring against Inter Milan in the Champions League tomorrow.
He said: “People are always going to look for stuff, especially when you are a big part of the team and someone
who is there to get the goals. As a team we can all do better and, as the striker, you get spoken about more. But I feel sharp and fit – if I wasn’t, the manager would not be picking me.
“He believes in me, I believe in myself and, hopefully, I can score a couple of goals on Tuesday and it will be put to bed.”
Kane also denied that Tottenham made a mistake by not buying any summer reinforcements.
“The gaffer believed we had a strong squad and did not want to sign players for the sake of it. It showed huge trust in the players and we have to repay it,” he said.
“Energy-wise there was no fatigue, but it was not good enough with the ball (against Liverpool). We will bounce back – we are one of the fittest squads and will continue to be.”
Mauricio Pochettino (above) saw his men go down 2-1 at Wembley to the Reds and Kane added: “We fought until the end and could have nicked something but, we have to be honest, we didn’t deserve to.
“We had a lot of possession and it suited Liverpool because they play on the counter-attack.
“We know as a team we can do a lot better. We battled but sometimes there has to be a bit more quality on the ball.
“We have not given away possession like that for a while.
“It is unlike us and it is unfortunate it has happened in a big game.”
