Egypt deaths postmortems ‘inconclusive’
New tests ordered on hols couple
EXPERTS have so far failed to find out what killed two British holidaymakers in Egypt.
John and Susan Cooper collapsed and died in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada last month.
Their bodies arrived in the UK last week but postmortem results were “inconclusive” and more tests will be done, said lawyers for the couple’s daughter.
John, 69, and Susan, 63, of Burnley, had been staying at the Steigenberger Aqua Magic with daughter Kelly Ormerod, 40.
Kelly said there was a strong smell in their room the night before they died and it has been claimed an agricultural insecticide was used to fumigate the room next door. Egyptian authorities said the deaths were linked to E.coli, which has been disputed by Kelly. Yesterday her lawyers, Smith Jones, said the pathologist “was unable to ascertain the likely cause of death in either case”. They understood more tests will be carried out “as a matter of urgency”. An inquest is due to open in Preston today and the couple’s funerals will be held tomorrow.
