The first refugees expelled by Uganda dictator Idi Amin arrived in the UK. The tyrant ordered 55,000 Asians to leave the country within 90 days or face imprisonment.

Ronald Reagan announced America and the USSR had agreed to slash the number of nuclear weapons. The IntermediateRange Nuclear Force Treaty was signed three months later by the US President and Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev. It was the first agreement of its kind between the superpowers.
