Happily settling into their newly agreed open marriage, Joy and Alan now have to broach the situation with the kids.
In possibly the most awkward – and funny – family dinner you might see, they embark on telling them what’s going on.
“Me and your dad have decided to start seeing other people. Together. In tandem,” says Joy (Toni Collette). “Very much as we are now, but with some extra sex,” chimes in Alan (Steven Mackintosh). Their horrified offspring are concerned that their parents are part of some “epic suburban sex network”. Not yet, comes the reply.
Meanwhile, the rules of the experiment are put under serious strain as Joy bumps into first love Lawrence (Paul Kaye) in a pharmacy, and Alan’s connection to Claire (Zawe Ashton) becomes more intense.
Joy continues to be plagued with strange memories from her past. And elsewhere, friends Tom and Michelle discover new feelings for each other.
