TV head ‘hounded out of job’
SUSPENDED Educating Greater Manchester head Drew Povey has quit, claiming council chiefs forced him out.
But he offered to work for free for his former school as it adjusts to his departure.
Mr Povey starred in last year’s Channel 4 documentary filmed at Harrop Fold School in Little Hulton, Salford.
But he and three other senior staffers were sent home in July amid claims of “off-rolling” – when schools potentially boost performance by removing pupils likely to get poor exam results.
He insists he has done nothing wrong. In his resignation letter he said: “My overall feeling is that Salford City Council are determined to pursue me personally...
“Rather than allow further damage, I have taken the decision to step down.”
The council denied a personal vendetta.
