An odd but charming little show, this is a bit like ‘Who Do You Think You Are, Emmerdale village?’

Marking 100 years since the end of the First World War, the soap’s cast members tell the stories of real Yorkshire men and women from 1918.

Favourites Charlotte Bellamy (Laurel), John Middleton (Ashley), Bhasker Patel (Rishi), Mark Charnock (Marlon), Natalie J Robb (Moira), and Zoe Henry (Rhona) will all follow different stories. From Woolpack chef to the real wartime cook, village vicar to the battlefield priest, telly farmer to the real country land girl and soap vet to the real frontline vet, they will honour hidden heroes.

In this first episode, Mark, who plays chef Marlon, looks back on the story of a chef who lived in the original Emmerdale village.

Mark, who has hardly any cooking experience, suddenly finds himself preparing meals for hungry troops as he uncovers the life of a cheeky man who left a remarkable legacy.
