ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

-

One of the most dramatic scenes is when the Home Secretary’s car is repeatedly fired on by a sniper in Episode 2, shattering the bullet-proof glass and killing her driver.

Rather than using body doubles, stars Keeley and Richard both stayed in the car.

They shot the scene in one take, as ball-bearing bullets cracked the windows, in a North London warehouse.

Breakaway plastic projectiles that look like salt and pepper pots were fired at the custommade window to create the assassination attempt.

The 15mm windows are made of weakened silicon glass and plastic on the outside of the regular car window.

Toby Steward, senior pyrotechnics supervisor at Artem, says: “It looks like it’s drilling at the glass without actually doing any damage.” In the attempted attack on Budd’s kids’ school in Episode 2, children were showered in silicone glass, which has a soft rubber texture. Unlike Keeley and Richard’s slick scene, this took several takes... because the pupils couldn’t stop laughing.
