Tourist chiefs blast Balearic booze limits
TOURISM chiefs are challenging a ban on unlimited free drink at Mallorca and Ibiza’s all-inclusive hotels.
The Association of British Travel Agents hit out at authorities’ claims that such deals are fuelling drunk behaviour in resorts.
Bel Busquets, Balearic Islands Tourism Minister, only wants inclusive drinks allowed at mealtimes to tackle “uncivic behaviour”.
The ban is due to come into force in 2020, so the industry can change deals.
But ABTA said: “We’ve asked for evidence that allinclusive holidays are a significant cause of the problems intended to be addressed, as this is not the experience we have.”
The Hotel Federation of Mallorca said it will challenge the legality of the move in court if necessary.
