The walk to school...

-

In response to your article ‘Lung peril of school time’ (Sept 18), getting families to walk to school will protect our children from toxic air pollution. Motorised traffic is the top source of dirty air in towns and one in four cars on roads at peak times are on the school run.

There isn’t a one size fits all approach to helping families walk to school, but closing streets to cars outside schools can be one effective way of improving safety and reducing air pollution.

It is clear the benefits of being physically active outweigh the air pollution risk, and in walking to school we become part of the clean air solution. Zak Bond, Public Affairs and Policy Coordinator, Living Streets
