Hit Serena with ban too
IT was bizarre, admittedly. Umpire Mohamed Lahyani climbing down from his high chair to give Nick Kyrgios a pep talk during a secondround match at the US Open.
For his breach of protocol, Lahyani has now been suspended for two tournaments. Fair enough.
But for calling umpire Carlos Ramos a “liar” and a “thief”, Serena Williams was only fined.
Just as she was only fined in 2009 for threatening to “take this f***ing ball and shove it down (the) f***ing throat” of a lineswoman.
Just as Williams (above) was only fined in 2011 for calling umpire Eva Asderaki a “hater” and “ugly inside”.
Those fines amounted to $101,500 (£76,500). Serena has won $82million (£62m) in prize money in her career.
When Williams complains about double standards, she has a point.
