Many Abbey returns

-

DOWNTON Abbey fans will be over the moon to see their favourites gathered again – for the long-awaited film version.

Dame Maggie Smith was among the top stars returning for the big-screen extension of the hit ITV period drama.

Dame Maggie, 83, who plays the Dowager Countess of Grantham, was among the familiar faces pictured taking part in a scene in a churchyard.

TV series stars Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Matthew Goode and Penelope Wilton have also been cast.

They are joined by newcomers Imelda Staunton and Geraldine James.

The show’s creator, Julian Fellowes, wrote the film’s screenplay and will also be co-producer. It is due to be unveiled in September 2019.

Production company Focus Features said it is thrilled to be “bringing back the world of Downton”.
