POUNDLAND IN RENT RANT
Poundland’s boss has urged shop landlords to get real about their rent demands.
Barry Williams said his business is keen to fill empty shops – but only on the right terms.
He added: “We can only do this if landlords really change their expectations about the total cost of occupation to reflect the new realities of UK retail.”
It came as Poundland announced plans to take over an initial four stores left vacant when rival Poundworld went bust.
The firm is also in talks with landlords of up to 16 other outlets.
If all goes to plan, up to 20 stores should reopen by next month.
Around half of them will stock its Pep&Co (above) fashion range.
The openings will create 400 jobs, with former Poundworld workers guaranteed an interview.
