HUMBLED
Fernandinho: We will have more humility after our Lyon disaster
FERNANDINHO says Manchester City’s disastrous start to their Champions League campaign will force them to face the future with more humility.
The pre-tournament favourites slumped to a fourth straight European defeat at the hands of Lyon, despite coach Mikel Arteta’s insistence they have the best squad in the world.
Brazil midfielder Fernandinho made it
clear the Premier League champions must improve quickly – or risk another disappointing European campaign.
Fernandinho, 33, said: “We have to be humble now and go to Hoffenheim (in the next group game) to try and win there – and the other four games as well.”
Manager Pep Guardiola, who served a touchline ban for the Lyon defeat (stand-in Arteta, above) has been left unhappy with his team’s recent displays.
He cancelled a day off and ordered his players in for extra training after their win over Fulham last weekend.
City’s fans also voted with their feet and only 40,111 – nearly 15,000 below capacity – turned up for the 2-1 defeat to Lyon.
