Days off to be part-time PC

WORKERS are being given 10 more days off by a council if they use them to volunteer as a police officer.

Police hope employersupported policing will boost community safety and provide those who sign up with new skills.

Basildon Council planning officer Gordon Humphries is already an Essex Police special.

He said he can police his area at times that suit him.

“I get to make a positive difference to other people’s lives and I’ve made many new friends,” he added.
