KID CANARIES FLY ON WINGS SAYS FARKE

- BY JACK LANG

DANIEL FARKE paid tribute to his youngsters after Norwich registered a third win on the trot.

The Canaries managed only one goal, but were dominant for long spells, with their bright combination play down the flanks catching the eye. Little wonder that Farke sang the praises of his wingers and full-backs.

“Look at the average age of our wide players,” said the German. “Jamal Lewis is 20 years old. Todd Cantwell is 20, Max Aarons is 18, Emi Buendia 21. No other football club in Western Europe has such young players out wide. That’s a sign of the way we want to go.

“There is still space for improvement. In the first half, Jamal could have given two finishing passes for team-mates to score. But in general, I compliment them for a really good performance today.”

Cantwell and Lewis were particularly influential down the left in the first half. Only tame finishing by Marco Stiepermann kept the scores level and Cantwell himself should have done better just after the break.

But Teemu Pukki (above) eventually popped up with his fifth goal in the last eight games.

“It was a pretty important week for the club and we got nine points in eight days,” added Farke. “QPR came into this game full of confidence, but we controlled it.

“For my nerves, I would have preferred a second goal, but we stuck together and defended everything. It was brilliant.”

QPR boss Steve McClaren felt the result was unfair, saying: “Norwich dominated the first half an hour, but we pressed them more and got hold of it. The game had 0-0 written all over it.”
