Raab denies Tory plot to hold snap election

-

BREXIT Secretary Dominic Raab has been forced to deny No 10 is plotting a snap general election for November.

It comes as Theresa May faces a showdown with her Cabinet today after the EU’s blunt rejection of her Chequers plan for leaving Europe.

Reports emerged that Tory aides have secretly started planning for a shock vote after the PM was humiliated by EU chiefs in Austria.

Two senior members of the Downing Street political team began “wargaming” another election, the Sunday Times reported. But Mr Raab dismissed it, saying: “It’s for the birds, it’s not going to happen.”

And he blasted calls by some EU leaders for Britain to hold a second referendum, claiming re-run ballots fuelled extremism. “The EU has a habit of spurning democratic votes,” he told the BBC.
