TAKE THE TOWER ITV4, 9pm

A booming movie trailer voice sets the tone for this tongue-incheek challenge show.

“In a city... in a tower... one of Hollywood’s most iconic villains, Dolph Lundgren, has dared these wannabe action heroes to take him on,” yells the voiceover.

Cut to Dolph, star of blockbusters like Rocky, Universal Soldier and The Expendables, sitting in a huge leather swivel chair. “Yes, I’m an iconic action movie star,” he smirks. Don’t worry – he’s not taking himself too seriously.

The idea is that members of the public are challenged to mental and physical tasks based on classic action movies, hoping to make their way to the top of a ‘tower’ and win a holiday and cash.

It’s like a hyped-up version of The Crystal Maze, only bigger, bolder and less witty.

This first episode sees a team from Caerphilly try their luck, but they prove to be less Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible and more Dumb And Dumber.
