YOU’RE MY SESS BOMB
Fulham wonderkid says there was no way he would leave the Cottage for Prem big guns: ‘It’s my club and I owe the manager’
FULHAM wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon insists he has no regrets snubbing the Premier League big boys and is desperate to repay manager Slavisa Jovanovic’s faith.
The left winger was linked with Manchester United and Spurs last summer after guiding the Cottagers back to the Premier League.
But the 18-year-old says the promise of regular game time at Fulham meant committing his future to the west London club was an easy decision to make.
“I was always going to stay [at Fulham]. I was always focused on staying and trying to play with Fulham,” Sessegnon told Mirror Sport.
“It’s my club. It’s the one club I know. I feel very comfortable at Fulham at the moment. I just wanted to play.
“I think you could see last season in the Championship we controlled many games with our possession, we created a lot of attacking chances and opportunities.
“We don’t have a negative approach, we like to attack, it doesn’t matter who the team is we are playing we always play the same way and that’s attractive to me.”
Sessegnon was given his first start by Jokanovic (above) in 2016, and this year was named Championship Player of the Season at the EFL Awards.
He has featured in all six of Fulham’s Premier League fixtures this season, and says he owes his remarkable rise to his boss.
“We have a good relationship, I have been working with Jokanovic since I was 16 so we have built a good relationship till now and he helps me a lot,” he added. I think you can see that from my debut season till now, I’ve improved and that’s purely down to him and the faith and confidence he’s shown in me. He believes in me and I repay him with good performances.”
Fulham have only won one league game on their return to the top flight, but turn their attention to the Carabao Cup tonight when they travel to Millwall.
Sessegnon (right) admits the step-up in quality has been a challenge, but says he’s ready to learn from the best in the business.
He continued: “Playing against the best players in the league and the world has been a challenge. Man City was a good test for me, it was a hard game playing against top players.
“Fernandinho, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling, Kyle Walker. They’re all good players but they’re players I can learn from and improve from going forward.”
